About HuntingLicenseCost.com

A free, independent calculator for what a hunting license actually costs in all 50 states — built because that answer was scattered across 50 different government websites, none of which agreed on a layout.

I've hunted whitetail and upland birds across half a dozen states over the last 15 years, and I got tired of digging through a different state agency PDF every time a buddy asked "what's it actually cost to hunt out there?" This site is the answer I wish existed: one place, every state, sourced straight from the agencies that set the fees.

How Fees Are Sourced & Verified

Every state page is built and checked against that state's own fish and wildlife or game agency page — not scraped from a reseller or aggregator. This is a working reference maintained by one person, not a paid research service, so treat it as a strong starting point rather than a substitute for the agency's own current fee schedule. Here's the process behind each state guide:

A handful of states have unusual fee structures (species-priced licenses, required add-on stamps, draw-only tags) that don't reduce cleanly to one number — those pages call that out explicitly and point you to the agency for the exact figure rather than force a number that doesn't reflect reality. If you spot a stale or wrong figure, the fastest fix is the email below.

Found a Wrong Number?

State agencies change fees without much notice, and I'd rather hear about a mistake from you than have you find it mid-purchase. Email bugs@huntinglicensecost.com with the state and what you found on the agency's site — corrections typically go live within a few days.

Why This Exists

HuntingLicenseCost.com doesn't sell licenses and isn't affiliated with any state agency. It's an independent reference tool, part of a small family of utility calculators built by Vanilabs. The goal is simple: help hunters budget a season accurately before they buy anything, using a free calculator instead of another login-walled app.
